APoJi 2012 – Special Notice

(UPDATE: December 12, 2013 Obviously, many more changes have taken place over the course of this past year. The link given in the letter below shows the state of the document as posted on February 4, 2013, after which the primary document location was shifted to its own page. The latest edit can be found here: apoji.org — Ed.

(UPDATE: January 29, 2013 A number of revisions to the document have taken place since the start of the year and are expected to continue sporadically for the next month or two. Last minute ideas? Better late than never. — Ed.)

Dear Reader,

We will soon suspend editing of the document A Peace of Jerusalem, possibly for the last time, so it seems fitting to restate the objectives declared for this initiative more than three years ago…

In late 2009, we set out on a simple mission:

1) to collect Mideast Peace ideas from anyone willing to offer them;
2) to integrate these notions into a contradiction-free proposal; and
3) to limit the evolving document to no more than 2,000 words.

We had (and still have) no illusions about our prospects for defining a perfect peace; reality and perfection suffer each other none too well — except perhaps in art and existentialism. Our broader aim was (and still is) to foster constructive dialogue about peace in the Middle East, and to create a modest document that would, in theory, become a little ‘less imperfect’ with each iteration.

On behalf of myself, the other Editors, and the Composing Group, I would like to thank everyone who has participated in this collaborative venture. To those who kicked in a few bucks to defray mailing, hosting and advertising expenses, much appreciation is due. And to those hundreds of souls who came bearing nothing but dreams, a very special thank you for sharing them with us.

If you’re reading this after December 21, 2012, you can explore the final document at https://imahd.ca/2009/11/05/a-peace-of-jerusalem/, where it has resided in various forms since its first posting on November 5, 2009.

May peace be upon us all.

Sincerely,

Editor S.

Newton Spins in Grave

Newton taught us that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This “third law” of the universe was obviously intended to be applied in the physical sciences. Newton had no idea that the concept would attain such prominence in the informal (pop) social sciences hundreds of years later, nor that it might even be cited as pseudo-scientific justification for blind moral relativism that prejudicially confers equality upon competing narratives while disregarding obvious disparities in their provenance.

Zen lies Abu told Ma

The easiest kinds of lies to tell are the ones where you just say the exact opposite of what’s true. It may seem like a lazy approach to deceit, but this simple tactic has proved surprisingly effective over the years. The logical mind can be stymied by a disconnect between diametrically-opposing versions of the same reality. Similar principles are used in Daoist and Zen practices to fool the rational mind into taking a nap.

In 10 Words, or Less… the most logical structure for (single-body) space-time

spatially-hexaxial, with time as the seventh dimension

Dear Physics…

.
Dear Physics,

Thank you for teaching us how little we know about everything.

Without you, brave science, we would have no idea that most of the universe (almost 96% of it) is made of stuff that’s invisible to–and immeasurable by–our most sensitive and precise technologies… and that the other 4% (or so) is made up of tiny particles (of uncertain construction) that interact with one another (even over great distances) by an undisclosed mechanism operating, apparently, at the same speed as light… which, as you have made clear, is possessed of an existentially ambiguous nature and moves at the rate it does for reasons known to itself alone.

With each passing year, we learn more, only to realise that we know less.

Is it too much to hope that we may eventually understand that we know nothing?

Now that would really be something.

Best regards,

imahd

P.S. – Maybe the universe frustrates our best efforts to comprehend it because we’re always trying to take it apart in order to understand it…

(just food for thought… no pressure…)
